Amber Alert vs. Silver Alert: What’s the Difference?

There are certain standards that a person’s disappearance must meet in order for police to issue an Amber Alert or a Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are intended for children under 18 who are believed to have been abducted and are in danger. To issue an Amber Alert, police must also have information about a suspect and his or her car.

Silver Alerts are for missing and at-risk adults or children. They are much more common for missing persons. Only last year were the standards for Silver Alerts expanded to include children.

In both cases, these warnings must be issued by the police.
