After two inmates died within a week at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility, investigations are ongoing.

Officials have confirmed that Robert Simmons died at the facility on Monday, July 8, and William Hill was found unconscious in his cell just five days later. Medical staff at the Meridian Detention Center attempted to save Hill, but he was eventually transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the Natchez Democrat, Hill was sentenced in 2016 in Adams County to 10 years for robbery and five years for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was seven years away from being released. Information on Simmons’ incarceration was not immediately available.

There are no exact details about the deaths of the two prisoners yet. However, we do know that investigators are looking into the cause of death of the two men.
