Man hit and killed by express train in the Bronx

A man was struck and killed by a northbound express train on Thursday, the Daily News learned.

The man was on the tracks somewhere between the 182-183 St. station and the Fordham Rd. station in the Bronx Thursday morning when he was struck by the D train around 8:50 a.m., traffic sources told The News.

He was taken to nearby St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition with wounds to his stomach, head and face. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Trains C and D were briefly diverted as crews worked to move passengers from train D to a second subway car. Normal service on both lines resumed at 10:13 a.m. with remaining delays.

Following the incident, operations on line B were suspended until late Thursday morning.

It was not immediately clear why the man was between stops, but transit sources said he was on the tracks as the D line approached.

In 2023, the MTA reported that 241 people were hit by trains and 97 people died.
