Homeless Hickory man arrested for repeated theft

Michael David Kennedy, 38, a homeless man from Hickory, was arrested yesterday (July 16) by Hickory police on a warrant for first-degree theft. Long View police were listed as the complainant in the Long View police report. Kennedy was arrested without incident at a hotel on Highway 70 SE in Hickory around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Kennedy was taken into custody at the Catawba County Detention Center, where he was initially held without bail. He is no longer listed as an inmate in Catawba County. An initial appearance was scheduled yesterday in Newton District Court. Kennedy also has a court date on July 22 for possession of methamphetamine and August 8 for theft, both in Newton. In addition, Kennedy will appear in a Gaston County courtroom on August 5, where he faces charges of removing, destroying or disabling an anti-theft device, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and theft.
