New details emerge in investigation into Grady County mother’s death

More and more details are coming to light about the possible background to the murder of a Grady County wife and mother.

Investigators say Holly Miller was found dead in her Chickasha home on July 8. A search warrant affidavit reveals more about what happened that day, while Miller’s daughter is seeking a restraining order against her mother’s husband.

According to the search warrant, there was an argument between Holly’s husband, Justin Miller, the night before her death, and although investigators have not yet named any suspects, Holly’s daughter stated in a petition that she fears for her own safety and that of her sister.

According to the affidavit, on July 8, around 2 p.m., Justin Miller asked a friend to check on his wife because he “couldn’t reach her.”

Court records state that the friend approached the house and the doors were locked. She “removed an air conditioning window” and saw Holly’s body lying on the floor with a “bruise on one of Holly’s calves.”

When investigators arrived, the girlfriend said Justin told her he and Holly had “taken cocaine” the night before and “started arguing.” The document states that Justin told the girlfriend he “just freaked out” and threw a lamp at the television. Holly fell back and was unconscious, but woke up and they argued again.

“It’s very heartbreaking and devastating,” Holly’s friend Chelsea Riddle said last week. “Prayers, lots and lots of prayers, the family is going to need it.”

Riddle says her daughter was friends with Holly’s younger daughter and the two played basketball under Justin Miller, who is still listed as the Friend School’s athletic director and basketball coach.

According to a restraining order filed against Justin Miller, Holly’s older daughter says her sister is now with her grandparents. In her motion, the daughter claims her stepfather, Justin Miller, is the only suspect in her mother’s death. However, the FBI says no suspects have been named yet. The daughter says in court papers that she fears Miller might harm her or her sister. The court papers state, “His comment about visiting my sister when ‘the police aren’t here’ leads me to believe he will show up and try to take her as well.”

The FBI is leading this investigation but has no timeline for if or when a suspect will be named.

Meanwhile, a Grady County judge approves the request of Holly Miller’s father, Jack Jerman, appointing him as special administrator of his daughter’s estate. This would prevent Holly Miller’s husband from cremating her, which would be against the family’s wishes.

According to an online obituary, Holly Miller’s funeral will be held tomorrow. The family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers to help cover funeral expenses. Donations can be sent to McRay Funeral Home in Chickasha.
