19-year-old sentenced after road accident in Delhi Township that killed his sister and another teenager

MASON, Michigan (WILX) – The Mason teenager who drove drunk and caused a crash that killed his younger sister and her friend will be sentenced Monday.

Elijah Klages, 19, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of driving while under the influence of alcohol causing death. Prosecutors dropped two counts of reckless driving causing death.

In August 2023, Klages was driving up to 80 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour speed zone in Delhi Township, according to investigators, when he crashed into two parked cars, killing his passengers – his 16-year-old sister Lillian and her 16-year-old friend Amanda Blue. The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said Klages’ blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
