Man drove drunk with 11-year-old child in car: Police

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested after driving while drunk with an 11-year-old child in the car, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, the incident occurred around 3:02 a.m. Sunday on Monday Highway in Hampton Bays. An officer observed the driver of a brown 2014 Honda four-door sedan failing to maintain his lane near the intersection with Gravel Hill Road, authorities said.

According to police, 37-year-old Ney A. Carreraurgiles was found to be driving the vehicle while intoxicated while the child was in the car.

He was arrested and charged with drunken driving (a felony under Leandra’s Law), drunken driving (a misdemeanor) and endangering the welfare of a child (a misdemeanor), police said.

The vehicle driven by Carreraurgiles was seized and he was taken to police headquarters, where he was registered and detained pending charges, police said.
