Police arrest officer accused of raping teenager at Lagos train station

The spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyinwho confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, but denied a report that the police authority was shielding the alleged rapist.

Hundeyin said the officer in question had been absent from work since the alleged incident and only turned himself in for questioning on Saturday.

The image maker, who assured the public that the matter would not be swept under the carpet, said that the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Adegoke Fayoadeordered the command’s Gender Unit to investigate the case immediately.

“The case is being fully investigated. There is no plan to cover up the allegation,” he said.

NAN had earlier reported that a 17-year-old girl (name withheld) reported to her parents a case of rape by a superior officer of Area H Command Ogudu, Ojota Region.

NAN learnt that the girl was the victim of an alleged brutal sexual assault by criminals while trying to recover her allegedly stolen phone.

NAN’s investigations revealed that the said police officer, who got wind of the theft of the phone, after recording the girl’s statement, offered to help in locating her missing phone.

It was also learned that the officer, who was simply referred to as Owolawiis said to have deceived the teenager with false information that police officers had arrested the suspected thief.

“The officer then lured the girl with the false information. When she arrived at his office, he allegedly raped the girl at gunpoint.“, said a source.
