On Friday, July 12, 2024, it was reported that Evra had been given a 12-month suspended sentence for abandoning his family for over two years. The football star is said to owe his ex-wife Sandra up to £800,000 in child support.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Evra was ordered to pay 4,000 euros (3,300 pounds/4,300 dollars) in non-pecuniary damages and 2,000 euros (1,600 pounds/2,100 dollars) in legal costs.

How did Evra react to his suspended sentence?

Patrice Evra has appealed the verdict through his lawyers and, judging by his reaction on Instagram, does not seem to be taking the matter too seriously.

Evra’s lawyer Jerome Boursican said the football star denied his former partner’s allegations and claimed that he had provided her with an apartment, a house with a swimming pool and an amount of over one million euros.

He said, “Mr Patrice Evra appealed despite knowing that he had provided his wife with an apartment and a house with a swimming pool in the south of France and had lent her almost two million euros for her living expenses. She does not want to repay this sum and that is the reason for this lawsuit.”

Evra has since left his partner and now has two children with Margaux Alexandra, although his divorce from Sandra is not yet finalized.
