14-year-old boy shot dead in south Houston, search underway for shooter

HOUSTON – Police in south Houston are searching for the killer of a teenager early Thursday morning.

Details are limited as this is an ongoing investigation, but according to Houston Police Deputy Chief Adrian Rodriguez, it happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. at an apartment complex on Broadway near Hobby Airport.

Based on preliminary information gathered by officers, Deputy Chief Rodriguez said they believe this was a targeted case, where the shooter fired from outside the window into the apartment, hitting an unidentified 14-year-old boy.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The only description police have of the shooter is that he is a 6-foot-11 African-American man in his 20s, wearing a dark hoodie and light sweatpants. Investigators said he was seen leaving the scene toward the north side of the apartments before officers arrived.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to arrests by calling Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
