North Texas police name suspect in connection with crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Nearly a month after an Arlington husband and father was killed in a crosswalk near his home, Arlington police named a person in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash.

They announced Thursday that officials want to speak to 24-year-old Joel Sac Tambriz about the death of 30-year-old Daniel Cruces.

In the early hours of June 9, Cruces was just a few miles from home when the tragedy occurred.

“Daniel needed to take a walk to clear his head,” Megan Vogel said.

Vogel said her husband left the apartment to go to a supermarket and never returned.

“An hour passed and we started looking for him on foot,” she said.

“I decided to look for him by car. And so, without knowing what had already happened, I spent an hour and a half looking for him,” said Daniel’s brother, David Miguel Cruces.

At the time, he had no idea that Daniel had been killed. He had been hit in a crosswalk at the intersection of Pioneer Parkway and Center Street around 2 a.m.

The driver of a black 2019 Honda Civic hatchback is to blame, police say.

Other drivers filmed the vehicle shortly before it reached the intersection where Cruces died.

Police said they found the car about a half-mile away on Pioneer Parkway, but it was abandoned. Witnesses said the driver ran toward a nearby apartment complex.

According to police, the vehicle was damaged in the collision and there were containers of alcohol in the vehicle.

Nearly a month later, they identified Sac Tambriz as a suspect and released body camera footage from a January traffic stop in which Sac Tambriz was driving the same car.

“I want him to imagine how he feels. I want him to imagine what it’s like to be a member of the family and imagine the pain we feel and the absence we feel without him. I want him to really imagine that,” said Miguel Cruces.

In addition to his wife and brother, Cruces leaves behind a 7-year-old daughter, his mother and his sister.

“Personally, I feel like I’m in a parallel universe. Everything is the same and yet so different. The days are just really, really hard,” Vogel said.

Relatives say they will not be able to put the matter behind them until the person responsible is behind bars.

Anyone with information on Sac Tambriz’s whereabouts is asked to call Arlington Police or Tarrant County Crimestoppers.
