Naples man sentenced for July 4 shooting

NAPLES – A Portland man was sentenced Monday for his role in a shooting on the Naples Causeway during last year’s Independence Day celebrations.

19-year-old Alexzander Goodwin pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and trafficking in prescription drugs.

He received an 18-year prison sentence for assault, all of which were suspended. He then received a five-year suspended prison sentence for drug trafficking.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Goodwin will be on probation after his release.

He is currently incarcerated in the Cumberland County Jail.

The shooting occurred on July 4, 2023, on the Causeway in Naples, a popular spot for holiday gatherings.

Authorities did not provide any information about anyone injured in the incident.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about gun violence and drug-related crime in Maine, even in normally quiet tourist areas like Naples.
