Freight forwarding company helps family of driver killed in accident

MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The company owned by the man who veered off the highway in Mission on Saturday and crashed into a nearby vacant home is helping the family with funeral expenses.

The 51-year-old driver, identified as Anastacio Martinez Jr., worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Rega Transport Inc. for seven years, often making long trips across state lines.

Martinez was on his way to deliver a load to California when the accident occurred.

Roberto Reyna of Rega Transport said it was Martinez’s first trip back after a week off work.

“He was gone for a week, so this was his first trip back,” Reyna said. “Our plant is about five minutes from the accident site. This shows that in this industry, anything can happen in a second.”

Reyna said Rega Transports is helping Martinez’s family pay for some of the funeral costs. The company has also set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with any other expenses. The GoFundMe page has already received more than $2,000 in donations.

The Mission Police Department is still unsure why Martinez left the highway. An autopsy has been ordered.

The incident occurred on June 29 in the 2600 block of W. Expressway 83, Eastbound Frontage, near Jr.’s Tires and Wheels.
