Nine injured in acid attack in Bochum, attacker arrested

At least nine people were injured in an acid attack at a cafe in Bochum, Germany, according to media reports early Monday (July 1). A man entered the cafe at around 3:25 p.m. local time on Sunday and poured an acidic liquid on a customer sitting at an outdoor table, police said.

The victim was seriously injured, police added. According to a report in the “Standard”, a waitress and a woman who was sitting next to the victim were also injured. Four police officers and two firefighters also sustained injuries when they came into contact with the liquid after calling the scene of the accident.

Attacker arrested, investigation launched

The attacker initially fled the scene but was arrested shortly afterwards. Police said the motive for the attack was unclear and that an investigation had been launched. They were also trying to identify the substance used in the attack.

Meanwhile, a report in the ASB newspaper said that the identity of the attacker was unclear, the crime scene had been secured and investigators were in the process of securing evidence.
