Rape allegation: Rape accused injured by police gunfire while trying to escape | News from Guwahati

Guwahati: A man arrested for raping a minor girl was injured by police firing while trying to escape from custody in Assam’s Udalguri district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. A total of five people have been arrested for raping the girl. The Chief Minister directed Director General of Police GP Singh to investigate the case under the supervision of a senior officer. “Five miscreants have been arrested in connection with Mazbat PS case No. 30/24 relating to rape of a minor girl by several boys on June 22. The main accused was injured by police firing yesterday while trying to escape,” Sarma posted on X. The girl was allegedly lured to a remote location under Mazbat police station by the five men on Saturday on a pretext at Dhunsur tea estate and the family filed a police complaint the next day. Police have since arrested the five accused from different locations in Udalguri and Darrang districts. One of the accused tried to escape from custody on Tuesday night and was injured when police opened fire to prevent him from escaping. “I have directed @DGPAssamPolice to conduct a thorough investigation into the case under the supervision of a senior officer,” Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma added.
