CBI team investigates alleged UGC-NET paper leak in Bihar village

Patna:

A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation that went to Bihar to investigate the UGC NET leaked documents case was attacked by villagers in Nawada. Local police say the villagers mistook the team for a fake. About 200 people have been charged. Only eight of them have been named.

The attack was recorded on a mobile phone and the people involved were identified based on the videos, police said. Four people were arrested.

A senior local police official, Ambrish Rahul, said the team was in Kasiyadih village when it was attacked. The officers were rescued after the local police arrived.

The team – four officers and a policewoman – had gone to search for a person whose mobile phone they were tracking. But the villagers beat up the officers and called them fraudsters. They also damaged the vehicles.

Faced with the unexpected attack, the team called the local police, who somehow managed to calm the villagers.

The team conducted its investigation in the presence of local police. Two mobile phones were seized based on their location.

The CBI officials said that after investigating the information contained in the phones, the people involved in the paper leak would be arrested.

The UGC-NET test, which allows students to opt for careers as teachers in higher education, was cancelled earlier this week. The cancellation came a day after the test was held due to suspicions that the exam papers might have been leaked. The centre had announced that it suspected that the integrity of the exam had been “compromised”.
