  • Voluntary Water Conservation Notice for Berkeley Township

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ— The Berkeley Township Municipal Utilities Authority (BTMUA) has issued a voluntary water conservation notice to its ratepayers, urging residents and businesses to reduce their water usage in light of the current extreme heat and drought.

The BTMUA recommends several practical measures to save water:

    • Households with even house numbers are asked to water on even days, and households with odd house numbers on odd days.
    • Residents are encouraged to use a hand hose instead of a sprinkler system to water trees and green spaces.
    • Driveways and sidewalks should not be cleaned with a hose, but with a broom or leaf blower.
    • The use of commercial car washes with water recycling is recommended over washing the vehicle at home.

These voluntary actions are critical to mitigate increased water demand and avoid the need for mandatory restrictions. The BTMUA appreciates the community’s cooperation and efforts to minimize water use during this time.

Residents can stay informed by subscribing to the Berkeley Township Nixle system, a free township notification service, by texting 08721 to 888777. More information on water conservation is available on the BTMUA website and through resources from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the EPA WaterSense program.
