Republicans demand information from SEC on Hunter Biden investigation | National

(The Center Square) – House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) this week wrote a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler urging the SEC to release information regarding the federal securities fraud investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, according to a press release.

The chairman’s letter to the SEC is part of an ongoing Republican impeachment inquiry into the president, which is “concerning whether sufficient grounds exist to develop articles of impeachment against President Biden for consideration by the full House of Representatives,” the letter states.

The impeachment proceedings against President Biden were initiated last year by former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), as The Center Square previously reported.

As The Center Square previously reported, Republicans made several allegations against the president during the impeachment proceedings. Among other things, they allege that President Biden received checks from family members.

The chairman’s letter mentions that several “business associates” and others associated with Hunter Biden were involved in the investigation into the tribal bail fund scheme as early as 2016.

“In 2016, attorneys in the SEC’s Enforcement Division investigated a tribal bond scheme in which several individuals were charged with violating federal securities laws,” the letter said. “As part of that investigation, several business associates and affiliates of Robert Hunter Biden (Hunter Biden) became implicated in the alleged conduct.”

As The Center Square previously reported, Hunter Biden was found guilty by a Delaware jury earlier this month on three counts of weapons possession.

The guilty verdict against Hunter Biden in the gun trial has divided opinions in politics.

Billionaire and former politician Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the legality of Hunter Biden’s conviction in a post on X, formerly Twitter, last week. He called the trial a “sham trial.”

“This trial was a farce,” Ramaswamy said. “Just like the Trump trial, it was a farce, but a farce for a different reason. It was a farce designed to legitimize the conviction of Trump, which is why it came right after, even for charges that happened way back. But it also avoids accountability of the Biden crime family for the actual things that Hunter Biden should be charged with. Like engaging in foreign influence while his biological father, Joe Biden, was vice president of the United States.”

The letter from Comer and Jordan mentions that Hunter Biden was required to produce documents to the SEC pursuant to a subpoena.

“On March 16, two days after the SEC issued the Archer subpoena, the SEC issued a subpoena to Hunter Biden (Biden subpoena) requiring Hunter Biden to produce, among other things, all documents and communications ‘relating to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC(.),'” the letter states.

According to the chairwoman’s letter, Hunter Biden used the name of his father, who was then serving as Vice President of the United States, in his attorney’s response to the SEC’s subpoena in 2016.

“In his response, Mr. Biden baselessly invoked his father’s position as Vice President, which could be interpreted as an attempt to prevent further SEC investigations,” the letter states. “And on May 11, 2016, the SEC issued a press release announcing the indictment of seven individuals – Hunter Biden was neither mentioned nor charged.”

In their letter, Comer and Jordan demand that the SEC release important documents, describing them as “critical to the impeachment process.”

It remains to be seen whether the impeachment proceedings against the president will gain more support.
