Daisy from Below Deck describes her sister’s near-fatal accident

Daisy Kelliher is known as the chief stewardess on the sailing yacht Below Deck and an all-around fun-loving girl. But this June, she opened up about a horrific ordeal her whole family had to endure. Daisy took to social media to say it was a “miracle” that her sister was “alive.”

Fans of Below Deck have known Daisy since she was a long-time member of Sailing Yacht. With many sailors in her family and a grandfather who was an Olympic sailor for Ireland, the Bravo star has had a lot to live up to. Outside of the reality TV show, Daisy seems to support her family in times of need.

Daisy from Below Deck rushes to her sister’s side

On June 19, Daisy shared the first part of her “disturbing message” with her followers on Instagram.

The 37-year-old says her younger sister “had an accident in Thailand” two and a half weeks ago.

She writes: “I got a message on Instagram from a friend of hers telling me she had had an accident, without any further information. That was on Friday and it happened on Thursday, and on Saturday my parents were already on the plane to see her.”

The Bravo star further explains that her sister had to undergo “multiple surgeries, including on her chest, face and brain, as well as two emergency surgeries.”

The TV star’s younger sibling had to undergo a twelve-hour operation, she writes.

Daisy added: “She was discharged from intensive care at the weekend and is now in a regular room. It looks like she will have to stay in hospital for another two weeks, possibly longer.”

TV star gives update on her sister

Daisy’s first post about her sister’s accident sparked words of love and support from many of her Bravo star colleagues.

Malia White commented on the post: “Thinking of you both. Sending you lots of love and prayers for a speedy recovery,” and Danielle Olivera wrote: “Sending love and strength to the whole family, you got this, a big hug.”

A day later, on June 19, Daisy told her followers that she had arrived in Koh Samui to be with her sister.

She explains that she wanted to be there to support her sister and help her parents, “as it was quite an ordeal for them.”

Daisy writes: “I sit by her side on what would have been her 34th birthday. Given the extent of her injuries, it is a true miracle that she is still alive. We are all optimistic and confident that in time she will make a full recovery.”

However, there is a deeper reason why Daisy is sharing her family’s ordeal online. She explains that she wants to raise public awareness about the accident.

The Below Deck star explains:

“To anyone who sees this and is going on vacation or traveling or something like that, please don’t get on the moped and if you do, wear a helmet and be insured (no insurance without a helmet). Several people in my family have been hospitalized in the last few weeks and not everyone has been as lucky as Bonnie. Also, always look out for your friends. If it hadn’t been for Bonnie’s friend who met her here, everything could have been different. It was she who noticed that Bonnie hadn’t come home, who found her in the hospital (as she didn’t have a phone) and was able to contact us. Without her, everything could have been different. She acted so quickly and was a great support to my family, so always look out for your friends.”

She adds: “We hope that by sharing this story we can save a life or spare another person or family from what they have to go through. We can’t believe how close we came to losing her.”
