Governor Kemp suspends Rabun County sheriff after arrest for public nuisance and sexual assault – WSB-TV Channel 2

RABUN COUNTY, Georgia – Governor Brian Kemp has suspended Rabun County Sheriff Chad Nichols following his arrest by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Kemp signed the executive order on Friday suspending Nichols for 60 days, effective immediately.

Rabun County jail records show Nichols is charged with public nuisance, sexual assault and breach of office.

“The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has no comment on the ongoing and active investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations,” Rabun County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Angell told Channel 2 Action News previously.

Nichols was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center by his own officers after his arrest last month.

The GBI said the file would be turned over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney after the Nichols investigation is complete.
