Friday marks the one-year anniversary of the reopening of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Friday marked the one-year anniversary of the reopening of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, prompting a celebration from local leaders.

The seven-year project began when Jeffrey Gundlach donated millions of dollars to transform the campus. The goal of the design was to usher in a new way of thinking about art museums.

On Friday, 2 On Your Side met with staff about progress over the past 12 months.

“People are coming, but not just from Western New York,” Charlie Garling, the museum’s director of learning and creativity, told 2 On Your Side.

“People come from all over the world to talk about not only what an incredible new building we have or how amazing our collection is, but also what I consider to be the heart of the museum, which is the interactions they have with the personal and with each other.

The museum is open every day except Tuesdays and public holidays.
