1 arrested, 2 others wanted, police say – NBC New York

Police have arrested one person in connection with the burning of a flag in front of the Israeli consulate in New York City, while two other suspects are at large, the NYPD said on Friday.

According to police, three men used accelerants to set fire to flags in front of the consulate on 2nd Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday.

Flyers sought were posted to X by Kaz Daughtry, the NYPD’s deputy chief of operations, who called the three suspects “cowards.”

Jahki Lodgson-McCray was arrested the same day, police said. The 20-year-old New Jersey man is charged with reckless endangerment, menacing and disturbing the peace. A message was left with his attorney seeking comment.

The consulate released images of the reported burnings on X and identified the three suspects as “a mob” that burned American and Israeli flags.

“This act shows that hatred against Israel is always accompanied by anti-American sentiments. The NYPD has increased security measures around the consulate to ensure the safety of our community,” the post said.

The fire occurred a day after vandals raided the homes of the Brooklyn Museum’s Jewish director and several board members.
