Car accidents in New Jersey

Jackson Twp, NJ – Cyclist killed in accident on Farmingdale RoadNew Jersey has an alarming rate of pedestrian accidents compared to other states. The North Jersey Transportation Planning Department found that over 175 pedestrians were killed in one recent year alone. That doesn’t include the several hundred pedestrians who survived their accidents but suffered serious injuries after being struck by negligent drivers.

If you or someone in your family has suffered serious injuries or been killed in a pedestrian accident in New Jersey, you are legally entitled to take legal action against the person, persons or entity that caused your injuries. While pedestrians are sometimes responsible for their accidents due to illegal parking, distraction, intoxication or some other form of negligence, most often it is the drivers who are responsible for accidents that result in injuries and deaths. In over half of the cases, it is the driver who fails to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.

Pedestrian safety has become such a big issue throughout New Jersey that the NJTPA has created a program called Street Smart. This program is designed to educate individuals about pedestrian safety and awareness in order to curb these types of accidents.

Pedestrians are completely exposed to the force of larger, faster moving vehicles while driving, meaning they are at risk of serious, catastrophic or even fatal injury on every journey.
