Two student organizations receive interim suspension notices, investigation ongoing – The Badger Herald

Two student organizations registered at the University of Wisconsin – Mecha de UW Madison and Anticolonial Scientists – are under contract Investigation and have received interim suspension notices over allegations of violating student organization codes.

The Student Organizations Committee received complaints and media reports May 5-6 alleging that members of the two groups co-hosted a criminal event that may have involved discriminatory behavior. The event was held at the Dane County Farmers’ Market and the allegations allege that some allegations “advocated violence, supported terrorist organizations and/or contained anti-Semitic comments,” according to UW News.

Under UW’s RSO Code of Conduct, discriminatory harassment is prohibited. According to UW News, the reports of discriminatory behavior have not been substantiated, but the two organizations remain on interim suspension pending an investigation by the Student Organizations Committee.

During the interim suspension, RSOs are prohibited from conducting organizational activities, except for one board meeting per week. The interim suspension also prohibits the use of university premises in accordance with the RSO Code of Conduct.
