NYPD: Daughter allegedly stabbed father from Queens and accuses him of sexual abuse

The Queens woman accused of stabbing her father to death in his home last week told investigators he repeatedly sexually abused her, police officials said Tuesday.

Peter Cavak, a 70-year-old retired bus driver, was murdered at the family residence in the 11400 block of 109th Avenue at around 7:16 a.m. on June 5.

According to NYPD Chief of Criminal Investigation Joseph Kenny, Cavak’s wife heard her daughter scream, “He’s trying to kill me!” before she ran into the front bedroom and found her daughter, 30-year-old Anna Cavak, lying on top of him before fleeing.

The brutal murder sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.

“He was a nice guy, a workaholic, loved his daughter – he was about to buy her a third car!” said Wilson, 66, who lived next door to Cavak for more than two decades. “He paid for her college, he paid for everything!”

However, Kenny reported that when Anna Cavak was caught by police after fleeing to New Jersey, she told officers that her father was allegedly a member of a cult and had sexually abused her.

“After being questioned, she stated that her father was a member of a cult and was violent,” Chief Kenny said.

Chief Kenny reported that although Peter Cavak had not been previously arrested, there was a domestic violence charge pending because his daughter had accused him of child sexual abuse.

Immediately after the murder, neighbors told the New York Metro that Anna Cavak also had a sister who had died of a drug overdose years earlier in the same house. According to police, Anna Cavak made statements claiming her sister committed suicide, basing her allegations on the same abuse.

Despite the rift between the daughter and father, locals said they did not see the murder coming and believed the family was happy.

Anna Cavak is scheduled to be extradited to New York on June 12 to face murder charges in Queens.
