Ryan Garcia arrested for alleged vandalism after welfare check at a Los Angeles hotel

Professional boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 8, after allegedly committing criminal damage at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

The damage is classified as a felony because under California law, any damage over $400 is a felony.

According to TMZ, which obtained video of the arrest, Garcia was cooperative despite allegedly being under the influence of substances at the time of the incident.

The arrest came after a relative of Garcia’s called Wednesday afternoon to check on his well-being. Police assessed the situation but took no action as he appeared to be fine. He was seen with his brother the next day. TMZ reports that Garcia had allegedly been drinking heavily the night of the well-being check, prompting hotel staff to turn him away.

Just a few weeks ago, Garcia tested positive for a banned substance after winning the highly publicized fight against Devin Haney. He also admitted to being “extremely high” during the fight.

Garcia has made headlines in recent months with his increasingly worrying behavior on social media. In a series of disturbing tweets, Instagram stories and videos, the boxer faked his own murder. Although he later spoke about it and said he was “taken advantage of,” he eventually claimed the whole thing was planned.
