Car accident due to excessive speed: Speeding car mows down three family members | News from Surat

Surat: Three members of a family were killed and three others injured after they were mowed down by a speeding car on the Outer Ring Road in Utran police station area on Friday night. An 8-year-old boy is among the dead. The three injured, including a pregnant woman, are undergoing treatment in hospital. The accident occurred when the auto driver lost control of the vehicle, skidded off the road and crashed into a group of people sitting on the roadside. The dead were identified as Sanket Vavadiya (32), a resident of Mota Varachha, and Devesh Vaghani (32) and his son Vian (8) of Velanja. Devesh’s wife Tejal, Sanket’s pregnant wife Dipika and her sister Hiral were undergoing treatment. Vadadiya and Vaghani were diamond artisans. Another family member, Ajay Miyani, was also present at the accident site and sustained minor injuries. Miyani filed a complaint against the auto driver, Jignesh Goel, at Utran police station. Police have arrested Gohel, a resident of Amroli, and charged him with culpable homicide. During questioning, Gohel, who owns a tailoring shop, told police that he dozed off while driving, which caused the accident. He was returning from Ahmedabad after taking his brother-in-law to the hospital. The Outer Ring Road is under construction. Some stretches are not yet completed, while on some stretches the road is being widened. In the past, fatal accidents have been reported on the same stretch.
