Car crashes into tree, 19-year-old driver killed in Apex

APEX, NC — A 19-year-old was killed in a traffic accident in Apex early Monday.

The accident was reported before 3 a.m. on Green Level Church Road near Hickory Mountain Road, north of the Jenks Road intersection.

The State Highway Patrol confirmed that 19-year-old Murillo Rivera of Morrisville was killed in the car crash.

Officials said the car was speeding when it veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree, killing the driver.

The area was cordoned off with barrier tape.

Only limited information was available.

The accident is being investigated by the State Highway Patrol.
