Teenager dies in car surfing accident

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — A young star athlete from Dawson County died Monday night when she fell from the hood of a moving car. Authorities said 16-year-old Anna Hawkins was car surfing — a dangerous practice often shown in movies and on television that involves standing on the hood of a moving vehicle — when she lost control of her car on a curve on Couch Road. A spokeswoman for the Georgia State Patrol Post in Cumming said the 16-year-old driver, who was not named, was speeding when the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. “The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control,” said Robin Stone of the GSP. The State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and will investigate whether charges may be filed against the driver, Stone said.
