SE of Water Resource Department suspended on day of retirement

CHENNAI: A few hours before his retirement, R. Vilavanathan, chief engineer of the Ground Water Circle of the Water Resources Department in Chennai, was suspended.

The disciplinary proceedings against the civil servant were initiated on the basis of the provisions of the TN pension scheme based on a government letter dated May last year.

He will reach retirement age on Friday (31 May).

The authorities slapped four charges against Vilavanathan for forwarding a pension proposal of another SE, T Prakasam, “without seeking government orders for determination of his pension and death benefit under Rule 39 of the TN Pension Rules, without considering that another TDP investigation case is pending against him (Prakasam)”, thereby causing financial loss to the state exchequer, according to the order issued by Deputy Chief Secretary B Chandra Mohan.
