Knife attack at gas station in Broward ended in gunshots. Detectives search for suspect

Broward Sheriff’s detectives are trying to identify a man seen on surveillance camera footage stabbing another man at a Dania Beach gas station earlier this month.

The unprovoked attack occurred just before midnight on Sunday, May 19, at the Sunoco gas station at 1201 S. Federal Hwy., sheriff’s office spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis said.

In the footage released by the sheriff’s office on Friday, a man wearing a gray hoodie walks up to the victim, who is standing next to a white SUV parked next to the gas pumps, and stabs him with a knife, then runs away, St. Louis said, adding that investigators believe the attack was unprovoked.

After attacking the victim, he pulled out a gun, chased the other man and fired several shots at him. The man’s girlfriend then took him to the hospital, St. Louis said. No one was injured in the shooting, according to the sheriff.

“During the investigation, investigators determined that the victim did not know the person who stabbed him, nor had there been any interaction or altercation with the attacker prior to the incident,” St. Louis said. “Investigators believe the stabbing was random and are asking the public for help in identifying and locating the attacker.”
