Drew Gordon dies in car crash near Portland

Drew Gordon is the older brother of Aaron Gordon, forward for the Denver Nuggets.

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Oregon – Drew Gordon, a former NBA player, died in a car crash in unincorporated Clackamas County Thursday afternoon.

The 33-year-old is the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon. He played college basketball at UCLA and New Mexico. He also played nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2014-2015 season and played professional basketball overseas. Drew Gordon was from San Jose, California, and lived in Oregon City, Oregon.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved two vehicles on South Springwater Road near South Stevens Road just after 1 p.m. Drew Gordon was driving a three-wheeled autocycle from Vanderhall Carmel. According to a preliminary investigation, he crossed the center line and struck a GMC Sierra pickup truck. Drew Gordon died at the scene.

Officials said the driver of the pickup truck and a passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Philadelphia 76ers responded to the death of Drew Gordon on social media, saying: “We extend our sincere condolences to the Gordon family and friends.”

The Denver Nuggets said their organization was devastated.

“Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will live on forever through his three wonderful children and all of his loved ones,” the Denver Nuggets said on X. “Our thoughts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time.”

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Drew Gordon, a former UCLA forward who passed away at the age of 33,” UCLA Men’s Basketball said on social media.

New Mexico Men’s Basketball said, “We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Drew Gordon. A two-time all-conference forward, he helped lead us to the 2012 Mountain West title.”

The accident is currently under investigation. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident at this time.
