Islam critic and police officer attacked by knife attacker

Mannheim police confirmed in a statement released on Friday that a “large police operation” was underway on the market square in the German city of Mannheim.

“A rescue helicopter is also in use. Further details cannot be given at this time,” the police continued.

On Friday, the German newspaper had already reported: Picture that The German activist and Islam critic Michael Stürzenberger was attacked by a knife attacker in Mannheim.

Perpetrator is said to have been shot by police

According to initial reports, two other people were stabbed, including a police officer.

The attacker was reportedly shot dead by police at the scene.

The attack occurred during a political rally in the area.

Stürzenberger, a right-wing activist, was chairman of the Freedom Party of Germany from 2013 to 2016. He is known for his harsh criticism of Islam and his anti-Islamic views.
