Buffalo State has the lowest graduation rates among the 20 SUNY schools. : Investigation station

Buffalo State has the lowest graduation rate among the 20 schools studied. Only a quarter graduate in four years and less than half graduate in six years. The University at Buffalo’s rate is significantly higher and is about average for SUNY schools.



We calculated graduation rates for the 20 four-year universities and comprehensive colleges with SUNY campuses, using full-time students who entered as freshmen in 2013. (We wanted to avoid pandemic years.) The Average four-year graduation rate was 55 percent. After six years, the average graduation rate was 68 percent.

Buffalo State had the lowest four-year graduation rate at 28 percent. It also had the lowest five- and six-year rates. The four-year graduation rate at UB was about average and was a few points higher in the five- and six-year categories. Geneseo had one of the highest graduation rates among the 20 SUNY schools.

Five-year rates include those who graduated in four and five years. Six-year rates total those who graduated in four, five and six years.
