Stolen vehicle investigation leads to manhunt in Easton, Hebron

EASTON, Maryland – Easton police are investigating a car theft that led to a manhunt early Thursday morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., police were called to Hertrich Chevrolet in Easton for reports of suspicious activity. The caller reported seeing a suspicious person and a truck driving around the parking lot. When officers arrived, they saw a white Chevy Silverado with Virginia plates leave the parking lot and followed the truck. Officers stopped the vehicle at US Foods and arrested the driver. They reportedly noticed a broken passenger side window and ammunition and equipment that appeared to be police-related.

During the investigation, officers were informed that a second suspect had been observed fleeing into the wooded area behind Hertrich Chevrolet. It was then discovered that a passenger window had been smashed on a marked Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office vehicle parked in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot. It was unclear if the suspect(s) may have been in possession of a firearm.

The Maryland State Aviation Police, an MSP K-9 team, and a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office K-9 were called in to assist, but after all attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful, the search was called off.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Easton police officers were called to the 29000 block of Hawkes Hill Road for a report of a stolen 2024 Chevy Traverse. Due to the proximity to the dealership, the person who stole this vehicle is believed to be the same suspect who previously fled into the wooded area. Police say it is unknown when the vehicle was stolen.

The vehicle was later found by Maryland State Police in the Hebron area. It is currently unknown whether an arrest was made.

Further investigation revealed that the Chevy Silverado was stolen in Baltimore City around 11 p.m. on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing.
