Filmmaker Omar Lulu granted provisional bail in rape case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted interim bail to “Oru Adaar Love” director Omar Lulu on charges of raping a young woman. In his plea before the court, Omar argued that his sexual relationship with the complainant, an actor, was consensual.

A bench headed by Justice A. Badharudeen granted interim bail to the director and adjourned his application for detailed hearing to June 6.

In the complaint, the Malayalam youngster alleged that Omar Lulu raped her multiple times after promising her a film role. The Nedumbassery police recorded the actor’s statement and booked the director under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (punishment for rape). The director denied the allegations and termed them an attempt to extort money. He further claimed that the complaint was based on resentment over their broken friendship.
