Police search for data from cell phones found in basement with two killed teenagers

MOLINE, Illinois (KWQC) – Police believe the contents of the phones may contain evidence of a double murder.

According to a search warrant, two iPhones were found in the basement, one in a victim’s pants pocket and the other on a nearby bed. Police will search for data such as call logs, messages, location data, pictures, videos and more, including deleted items that could provide evidence related to the double murder.

Police found 17-year-old Giovanni Flores and 19-year-old Zachary Meincke, both of Moline, dead in the basement on May 5, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Moline police arrived at the home in the 1800 block of 31st Street on May 5 after receiving a 911 call reporting fights and people running from a loud party, the search warrant states. A call later came from a “hysterical woman” who said someone had been shot and she saw “blood everywhere.”

The warrant states that there is a “notable history” of “gunshot” calls at the home.

Moline police have arrested and charged 20-year-old Israel S. Martinez with shooting two teenagers on May 21.

Martinez is charged with two counts of first-degree murder (Class M felony), two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm (Class X felony), two counts of discharging a firearm (Class 1 felony), and obstruction of justice (Class 4 felony).

Martinez had his first court hearing in Rock Island County on Tuesday.
