Residents injured, pets killed in house fire in Edinburgh

EDINBURGH, Indiana – One man was injured, six people were left homeless and more than half a dozen pets were killed in an overnight fire in Edinburgh.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, emergency crews were called to a home in the 500 block of Sunset Drive, near South Eisenhower Drive, for a report of a garage fire. Officers found the fire had already spread to a large portion of the home, Police Chief Doyne Little said in a statement.

Officers helped residents of the home move further away from the fire. A 48-year-old male resident was treated for burns to his legs and taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Little said.

About six cats and two dogs died in the fire. Six residents and several other animals were left homeless due to “significant fire damage,” Little said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
