NHTSA Issues Consumer Alert on Aftermarket Steering Wheel Decals – The Presidential Prayer Team

Stickers have injured drivers after airbags deployed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued another warning to consumers not to use or purchase aftermarket steering wheel decals. Many of these decorations, which include rhinestones or other shiny objects, are designed to be placed over the vehicle logo in the center of the steering wheel. The agency is aware of two motorists who suffered serious injuries in a collision caused by plastic or metal emblems.

The agency reported that the last driver was “involved in an accident in which the airbag deployed and two pieces of a rhinestone-embellished metal sticker were thrown into the person’s face and neck.”

Regarding another accident, the NHTSA said: “The driver lost sight in one eye after the rhinestone-embellished sticker came off the steering wheel and struck the driver in the face.”

The agency stated: “In an accident, the force of an inflating airbag can transform the product into a projectile, which could result in serious injury or death.”

Pray with us as the Lord shows you…

  • For wisdom for Deputy Administrator Sophie Shulman, who now heads the NHTSA.
  • For U.S. traffic safety agencies that strive to protect American drivers from dangers on the road.
