1 dead after fatal motorcycle crash in Kootenai County backcountry | Spokane News

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – A Moses Lake man has died in a motorcycle crash in the backcountry of Kootenai County.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), officers responded to a 911 call that a motorcycle had left Forest Service Road 437 and crashed into an embankment around 2:50 p.m. on May 26. The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Austin Vickery of Moses Lake.

According to KCSO, Vickery was presumed unconscious when the KSCO Backcountry Unit, Traffic Unit, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Northern Lakes Fire arrived. He was later pronounced dead.

Officers learned that the motorcyclist lost control on a curve and struck a tree. He was thrown from his motorcycle and fell into the embankment.

According to KCSO, speed is believed to be a factor in this accident and the incident is currently under investigation.
