26-year-old parolee arrested for assault | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HOT SPRINGS – A local parolee was arrested on assault charges Thursday night after admitting to punching his 63-year-old father in the face several times, police records show.

Brad Austin Brown, 26, of 119 Disney St., was arrested at his residence shortly before 9 p.m. and charged with second-degree domestic violence, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison because of his father’s age.

Brown, who also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court, was initially held on zero-dollar bail. He pleaded not guilty in Garland County District Court on Friday and his bail was reduced to $7,500. A felony review hearing was scheduled for July 19. He remained in custody as of Friday afternoon.

According to court records, he was sentenced to five years in prison on April 16, 2019, for burglary, theft of property with a firearm and escape, but was released on probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County Sheriff’s Deputy Colleen Smith responded to the Disney Street apartment around 8:45 p.m. Thursday for a domestic dispute.

When she arrived, she saw a man, later identified as Brown, standing at the end of the driveway. She asked him what happened and he allegedly told her that he and his father got into an argument and at one point Brown hit his father. He then noticed his father standing next to a pickup truck at the end of the driveway.

Smith made contact with the father and noticed that his face was red and swollen on both sides and blood was coming from his nose. He also reportedly had blood on his hands, pants and arms, which he told her was coming from his nose.

She asked him what happened and he said he and his son had an argument that turned physical. He said his son became angry and “lost control” and punched him three times in the face, causing injuries.

Brown was arrested and taken to the detention camp without further incident.
