11-year-old boy injured, 2 arrested after Jersey Shore shooting – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police said two women were arrested after a boy was shot and killed in Atlantic City on Saturday night.

Officers with the Atlantic City Police Department were called to the 100 block of North Rhode Island Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a child being shot, officials said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an 11-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. Officers treated the boy until he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, an investigation by officers and detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit revealed that 22-year-old Yanirah Davis and 33-year-old Yontay Cooper were the suspects in the shooting.

The investigation revealed that the two women, Davis and Cooper, showed up on North Rhode Island Avenue armed with a gun and a hammer and intended to fight a group of people with whom they had previously had an altercation, officials said.

Davis and Cooper are accused of breaking the window of a vehicle before shooting at the group, officials said. During that shooting, the boy was struck by a bullet as he lay on the floor of a home.

Davis and Cooper were charged Sunday for their alleged roles in the shooting and both were taken into custody later that day.

Each of the women faces charges of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and other related charges.
