Tamar Braxton reveals why she turned down Real Housewives of Atlanta offer

The R&B singer and “Braxton Family Values” alumna isn’t looking to make a living by joining the cast of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” anytime soon, although she says she was offered the opportunity.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta is full of bold, opinionated women with big personalities…so you’d think Tamar Braxton would fit in perfectly. But the singer Braxton Family Values a former student says she turned down an offer to join the hit Bravo series.

Even while WE are BFV was in the middle of its seven seasons from 2011 to 2020, Tamar was also starring in a spinoff series Tamar and Vince from 2012 to 2017. Clearly, she is comfortable with cameras rolling and capturing every moment of her life. So why not RHOA?

Apparently it’s the difference in the formats of the shows. “I’ve had conversations, but the truth is there’s just no way I’m going to sit around in makeup, put on a wig and get my face beaten up to chat with a gang bitches for nothing,” Braxton told Carlos King during his. While those other shows simply followed Tamar and various members of her family as they lived their lives, the Real Housewives the franchise is built around more artificial gatherings specifically organized to bring everyone together… where they tend to argue a lot.

“I can’t do it,” Braxton said. “What does this do for me in my life? What’s the problem? I can’t.”

The former host of The truth also looks at the bigger picture of what these shows seem to represent and what they seem to say about the people who appear on them.

“It’s not worth sitting here and arguing with another beautiful black woman over nothing so other people can think that’s what we’re talking about,” she argued.

“At some point you have to be responsible for what you put on the television screen,” she continued. “I don’t want to be part of that kind of television. I want to create epic, funny, enjoyable, relevant, epic television.”

Braxton’s argument for refusing RHOA are an echo of what a TLC member said Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins said in 2019. As noted TV InsiderWatkins said. Entertainment tonight at the time, “That’s it, I don’t play like that. I don’t argue. I’m too old to argue.”

“And first of all, I don’t argue with anyone I care about,” Watkins continued. “If I care about you, I’ll take the time to do it. But I don’t argue with any grown woman. What? I’ll end up going to jail for real. Like, I don’t know how to do that.”

Since leaving her association with WE in 2020, Braxton has continued to expand her presence musically and theatrically, appearing on several tracks, while releasing her own music and appearing in several TV movies, television shows and even by animating the Basketball Wives reunion show.
