Police hit armed man and take him to hospital – NBC New York

On Sunday morning, police took a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a brief chase in Brooklyn that ended with officers hitting the man with their car, the NYPD said.

The altercation began around 3:30 a.m. in the Brownsville neighborhood when drug agents allegedly observed the man pointing a gun at a woman outside a store near the intersection of East New York Avenue and Ralph Avenue.

The detectives, who normally work in the Bronx but are assigned to the Brooklyn borough as part of a summer violence reduction program, began the pursuit on foot, said John Chell, chief of NYPD patrol.

The foot pursuit was interrupted by a sergeant and a police officer who tried to cut him off in their car, Chell said.

The force of the impact left the man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Chell said the man will undergo surgery and is expected to survive.

According to police, a firearm was confiscated.

At the early morning press conference, the police chief also provided details of a shooting that police also carried out in Brooklyn that night. Officers shot and killed a 26-year-old man who was armed with two knives and reportedly refused to drop the weapons.
