6 people were arrested after attempting to steal over $2,500 worth of merchandise from Deerbrook Mall

Six people have been arrested after local authorities foiled a potential major theft at a shopping center.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas.

Loss prevention officers at Macy’s department store discovered five people hiding items and leaving the store without paying before getting into a Chevy Malibu sedan.

The Malibu was stopped by local police and the group of five women and one man – the group’s driver – were arrested.

Officers recovered more than $2,500 worth of stolen merchandise from several stores, including Macy’s.

An ironic look at how widespread shoplifting has become is the arrest of a would-be shoplifter at Deerbrook Macy’s when Humble police reported the first raid.

This time, a woman hid more than $170 worth of merchandise in a aluminum foil-lined grocery bag that she believed would interfere with theft-detection devices in the store.

Unfortunately, her brilliant plan ended up just like the inside of her bag: foiled.

The Humble Police Department published a post announcing the arrests on X (formerly Twitter):

“These successful arrests demonstrate the importance of collaboration and vigilance in our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe shopping environment for everyone at Deerbrook Mall. A big thank you to everyone involved!” A paragraph from Humble PD’s statement read.
