Atlanta Braves Probable Pitchers and Starting Lineups vs. New York Mets, May 12

The Atlanta Braves won the New York Series after winning Game 2 on Saturday afternoon. Atlanta nearly accomplished an incredible feat with the Braves’ first no-hitter in 30 years. However, the quest for history ended in heartbreaking fashion with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

Max Fried struggled with command, but found a way to lead a no-hit bid through seven innings. Joe Jimenez struggled but escaped the hitless eighth inning. Raisel Iglesias, who made his 200th career save Friday night, was hoping to seal a historic moment, but JD Martinez launched a first-pitch home run to spoil the ending. The Braves won, which is the most important thing, but it was hard to see it end like this.

The first game was exciting as the team returned to its high-powered approach with three homers in a single inning. Atlanta will attempt a series sweep tonight in front of a home crowd and continue its quest for a division title. Let’s take a look at the starting lineups and pitching for tonight’s game.

Luis Severino (2-2, 2.93 ERA) made his eighth start for the Mets and it’s been a bit of a mixed bag but overall he’s been a good pickup for New York. He has yet to face the Braves in 2024, so he will have a tough test tonight. He pitched 40 innings with 17 walks and 37 strikeouts.

Bryce Elder (1-1, 5.28 ERA) will leave for the fourth time this season and each departure has gradually become shorter. Most recently he started against the mighty Dodgers and they beat him pretty well. Elder allowed seven runs in 3.1 innings, including four walks and four strikeouts. Hopefully his familiarity with the Mets will allow him to play more like the pitcher we saw against the Marlins in April.
