Greenock rapist arrested after attacking two young women

John MacDonald told the woman he raped after she tried to escape his clutches that he would break her neck.

Months later, the 65-year-old struck again when the second woman left feeling like she wanted to “rip her skin off.”

MacDonald denied the allegations during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

However, on October 20, 2021, he was found guilty of raping and physically assaulting the first victim at his then home in Greenock.

MacDonald was also convicted of sexual assault and lewd comments to the other woman at another property in the city.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced this month.

Jurors heard the rape victim had been sleeping but woke to find MacDonald having sex with her.

She had previously gone to bed and wanted to be left “alone”.

After she was confronted, MacDonald told her she had “slept for ten minutes.”

The traumatized woman was initially prevented from leaving the perpetrator’s house.

He grabbed his victim, struggled with her and then made the chilling remark that he would “break her neck”.

The woman burst into tears as she finally escaped.

She denied that any sex was consensual because she didn’t see MacDonald “that way” given the nearly 30-year age difference.

The woman also became emotional during the trial when she was shown photos of the room where the rape took place.

The other victim – in her 20s – was attacked on May 16, 2022, after MacDonald had previously made a series of nasty comments to her.

They were standing in a kitchen when he started groping her and she tried desperately to push him off.

In his closing speech to the jury, prosecutor Alan Parfery said: “He wouldn’t take no for an answer.”

Only when someone came into the kitchen did he stop.

The woman described how she felt afterwards: “I wanted to rip my skin off because I felt so dirty.”

Mr Parfery said it was obvious MacDonald had a “penchant” for young women.

Lady Stacey postponed sentencing due to reports.
