Weather in Houston, Texas: 7-day forecast

Another round of rain and storms moves in on Mother’s Day and continues through Monday.

HOUSTON — Nighttime temperatures will drop to comfortable levels in the low to mid 60s with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. The slightly cooler temperatures are due to a slight drop in humidity that caused the storms that moved through Thursday evening. For this weekend, Saturday will be the only day reserved for outdoor activities. Expect partly cloudy skies with afternoon high temperatures in the mid-80s.

Unfortunately, between now and Mother’s Day, an upper low pressure system will move toward Texas and bring chances of rain and thunderstorms through much of Sunday. Right now, Mother’s Day won’t be a full day for everyone. However, everyone will have the chance to see showers and thunderstorms at some point during the day. It looks like rain will become more likely in the area early this afternoon, and will last through the evening before things improve Sunday evening.

Flooding will be a big concern, particularly in flooded areas north of the city. High-resolution models suggest forming or stationary thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon. If these storms form over northern areas that were flooded last week, flash flooding will become a big concern. It won’t take much rain for rivers to swell and flash flooding to develop in some neighborhoods.

As a result, the Weather Prediction Center has included much of Southeast Texas under a slight risk of excessive precipitation.

Showers and thunderstorms could also persist through Monday, before drier weather arrives for the middle of next week.
