Houston women’s golf poised to overtake Auburn Regional

The No. 7 seed Houston women’s golf team is tied for 6th with the University of Georgia at 28-over, 892 in the Auburn Regional at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Alabama. Sophomore Moa Svedenskiold led the way attach for 5th place at 1 under, 215.

After the first round Monday morning, the Cougars finished the day in third place. Svedenskiold had the best performance among the Cougars, reaching 72 with two birdies.

Sophomore Alexa Saldana and freshman Maelynn Kim began their round of the Auburn Regional at 2-over, 74, with Saldana making five birdies and Kim swinging just one birdie.

Ssenior Nicole Abelar started her round at 6-over, 78 with five birdies.

In the meantime junior Hyeonji Kang started her round with four birdies and finished at 7-over, 79.

On Tuesday, UH climbed to second place. Svedenskiold improved his overall performance by finishing his second round at 3 under, 69 with just one birdie.

Saldana continued his tournament at 1-over, 73, making five birdies. Kang also improved his score, finishing his second round at 3-over, 75 with four birdies.

With eight birdies to his name, Abelar finished his second round at 4-over, 76. Kim had a tough second round and finished 11-over, 83 with two birdies.

In the final round Wednesday morning, Svedenskiold finished her tournament at 2-over, 74, making three birdies of her own. Abelar finished his round at 3-over, 75 with five birdies.

Saldana and Kang finished their tournament at 4-over, 76, with Saldana and Kang making four and five birdies, respectively. Natalie Saint Germain replaced Kim and finished her round at 6-over, 78 with three birdies.

Although the Coogs failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships, this appearance marks the second consecutive year that Houston has participated as the No. 7 seed in an NCAA Regional Championship, tied with l 2017-18 team for the highest ranking in UH ​​history.
