How to get help applying

Houston-area residents affected by Hurricane Beryl can apply for federal assistance to help them recover, but the process can be confusing or even overwhelming to navigate alone, and making mistakes can lead to delays in receiving relief.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are available in person to help complete paperwork at six locations in Harris County, as well as five other locations throughout the region.

Many homeowners and renters are eligible for assistance from FEMA, which can reimburse people for some of the costs associated with disasters, including temporary housing, basic home repairs and even a one-time payment of $750 to replace food, water and other necessities that were damaged in the storm.

Residents can apply for FEMA assistance without visiting a relief center, but in-person assistance is available at several locations for people who have questions at any stage of the process. At this time, there is no set date for when Harris County’s relief centers will close, according to county officials. The deadline to apply for Beryl-related assistance is Sept. 9.
